Dispatchers received a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the shopping plaza, in the 2100 block of West White River Boulevard, in the early hours of Sunday, according to the Muncie Star Press. Two victims with gunshot wounds were found at the scene and, because of the hospital's proximity, were driven there in city police cars.
The other three victims arrived at the hospital in private vehicles. Two of the five were released after treatment in the emergency department at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie Police Department Deputy Chief Melissa Criswell said. The other three continued to be treated at area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
"From the initial investigation, it appears there were at least two altercations that occurred in two different areas of the parking lot," Criswell said. Detectives and evidence technicians were still actively working the case, she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Muncie police detectives at 765-747-4867 or police dispatchers at 765-747-4838.
