Early voting opens in New York City as Mamdani casts his ballot

The New York City Board of Elections reported 86,215 New Yorkers voted on the first day — slightly more than the 79,409 who cast ballots on the first day of early voting in the 2025 general election that made Mamdani mayor. "I got in and out. All New Yorkers can have that experience," Mamdani said after voting.
Early voting continues through November 1, with most city polls open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except October 27 and 28 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and October 29 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). On Election Day, November 3, polls are open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
New Yorkers are voting in congressional, state Senate and state Assembly races, statewide contests — including attorney general, where Democratic incumbent Letitia James faces Republican Saritha Komatireddy, and comptroller, where Democrat Tom DiNapoli faces Republican Joseph Hernandez — and five ballot questions put forward by the Mamdani administration on speeding up city government. Mamdani said he voted yes on all five proposals. Polls also opened Saturday in New Jersey, where voters are choosing the state's next governor.
