A Delaware County judge has sentenced a Columbus truck driver to 22½ years in prison — the maximum sentence allowed — for a fiery, nine-vehicle crash on Interstate 71 that killed a young couple and their 1-year-old son.

Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge Marianne T. Hemmeter imposed the sentence on Modou F. Ngom, 51, on Thursday, October 29, according to the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office.

A Delaware County jury found Ngom guilty on September 25 of three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and five counts of vehicular assault in connection with the crash, which killed Dr. Lynnea Soposki, 36; her husband, Luke Soposki, 37; and the couple's 1-year-old son, Logan.

Dr. Soposki worked as a veterinarian at the Muirfield Animal Hospital in Dublin. The family lived in Ashley, in Delaware County.

Ngom was driving a tractor-trailer northbound on I-71 in a construction zone on April 11 when he failed to stop for a traffic backup, triggering a chain-reaction crash. The Soposki family's vehicle caught fire in the crash, and five other people were seriously injured.

Relatives of the Soposkis and another woman who was injured in the crash have filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against Ngom, who owned his trucking company.
