Pennsylvania voters planning to cast a ballot by mail in the November 3 general election face a key deadline Tuesday: applications for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot must be received by the voter's county election office by 5 p.m. on October 27.

More than 1.2 million Pennsylvanians had already applied for mail ballots as of October 20, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State. Voters can apply online, by mail, or in person at their county election office. Where ballots are available, voters can also apply, receive, complete and return a ballot in a single visit to the county office through October 27 — but every method must meet the same 5 p.m. receipt deadline.

Completed mail ballots must be received by the county election office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3. A November 3 postmark is not enough. The Department of State also offers an official online tracker so voters can check whether their mail ballot was received, using the name, date of birth and county from the application.
