Trump and Obama hit the trail in Ohio and Georgia in the midterms' final week
Editorial illustration — Press Pass USAPresident Donald Trump campaigned in Ohio on Wednesday and former President Barack Obama campaigned in Georgia, as the two parties entered the final week before the November 3 midterm elections that will decide which party controls Congress for the next two years, Reuters reported.
Trump appeared with Senator Jon Husted of Ohio, who faces Democratic former Senator Sherrod Brown in one of the most competitive Senate contests that will determine whether Republicans hold their 53-47 advantage in the chamber. Obama appeared with Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia, who faces a challenge by Republican Representative Mike Collins in a state whose three most recent Senate matchups went to runoffs, though nonpartisan analysts view the Democratic incumbent as in a strong position to hold his seat.
The final week is playing out as Trump's public approval rating stands near a record low, with Americans increasingly sour on the high cost of living and the Iran war, threatening Republican majorities in the Senate and House, Reuters reported. Obama had kept a relatively low public profile until the past week, when he returned to the campaign trail with speeches sharply criticizing his successor.
Trump's Ohio stop was his third to the state in recent weeks, following campaign appearances near Dayton and in Youngstown, with Vice President JD Vance also making recent stops in the Cincinnati area and Lima, according to the Columbus Dispatch's live coverage of the Ohio visit. All 435 House seats and a third of the Senate are on the ballot November 3.
