Editorial illustration — Press Pass USARussia said it shot down most of 613 drones headed toward Moscow overnight, while Ukraine said its air defenses downed 97 of 112 Russian strike drones on Thursday and Russia struck Kharkiv, damaging an educational institution.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that Russia downed most of the drones heading toward the capital overnight. In Ukraine, Russia attacked Kharkiv, the country's second-biggest city, damaging an educational institution, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram.
Ukraine's Air Force Command said that as of 8 a.m. on October 29, its defenses had shot down or neutralized 97 of the 112 strike drones launched in the overnight attack, including Shahed, Gerbera and Parodiya types. The strikes hit seven locations directly, with debris causing damage at five more sites, and the drones were launched from the regions of Orel, Millerovo and Donetsk.
The rival tallies — Moscow's count of drones headed at its capital and Kyiv's count of drones it intercepted — come from each side's own officials and could not be independently verified in the initial reports.
