Deportation advocate Samuel Sey arrested in Ohio, held for possible removal
Editorial illustration — Press Pass USAGhanaian-Canadian evangelical activist Samuel Sey, a vocal public supporter of the Trump administration's deportation campaign, has been arrested and is being held for possible removal, according to reports first published Friday citing a Butler County Jail alert.
Sey, who lives in Ohio, was taken into custody and is being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Bulwark's Will Sommer first reported, with Raw Story also reporting the detention Friday. A mugshot obtained from the Butler County Jail shows Sey in custody.
The reporting so far does not specify the exact immigration charge or procedural basis for the detention, and it is not clear whether a hearing has been scheduled. Sey built an online following arguing for a harder line on immigration, and his writing has appeared on The Blaze, The Daily Wire and the Christian Post.
Earlier this year, Sey publicly defended the fatal shooting of a woman by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, a case that became a flashpoint in the national debate over immigration enforcement. Before his U.S. commentary career, Sey worked as a community liaison at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, according to Protestia.
