Editorial illustration โ Press Pass USAGunfire erupted near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday night, during homecoming weekend, leaving 11 people with gunshot wounds and a twelfth person injured in the panic, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a late-night news conference. Three victims suffered serious injuries, including one in critical condition, and eight were in stable condition.
Six of the injured are adults and six are juveniles, Revell said โ the youngest just 11 years old. An older woman was injured amid the panic as crowds fled. The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets, shortly after the Rattlers' homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Preliminary information indicates an altercation between individuals preceded the shooting, police said.
"I stand before you devastated," Revell said.
Florida A&M issued a shelter-in-place alert at about 8:40 p.m., urging people near Bragg Stadium and Perry Street to avoid the area. Florida State University issued its own emergency notification later in the evening, advising its Tallahassee campus community to remain indoors as police activity continued. By 9:45 p.m., police said the scene was secure. Officials have not said whether any of the victims are FAMU students, or whether the shooting is connected to university events.
The investigation is ongoing, and police urged the public to avoid the area while officers work the scene. FAMU said the campus remains safe and offered condolences to the victims and all those affected. This is a developing story; details may change as police release updates.
