The owner of a Fairfield jewelry store was killed Tuesday, October 20, in what police are investigating as a robbery-homicide — and as of this week, no arrest had been announced.

Tara Sinchuri, 52, owner of Everest Jewels & Clothing at 6679 Dixie Highway, was found dead inside his store after officers responded to reports of gunfire around 12:54 p.m., the Cincinnati Enquirer reported, citing Fairfield police. Police have not said whether merchandise was taken or identified a suspect.

Sinchuri's older brother, Bal Sinchuri, described him as “a very good, kind-hearted man” active in the local Hindu community. The family fled Bhutan as refugees, spent years in camps in Nepal, and moved to the United States in 2012 before settling in Fairfield. Sinchuri is survived by his wife, Puspa, and their three children.

Relatives gathered at the store after hearing the news, and investigators examined surveillance footage from neighboring businesses, the Enquirer reported. A family member told WKRC that nearby immigrant business owners are now frightened for their own safety.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfield police investigators at 513-867-6005. The investigation remains active, police said.
